Hunting in Allegany State Park
All hunters wishing to hunt in the park must obtain a permit (Allegany State Park Hunting Guidelines & Application), which is free, in addition to a NYSDEC Hunting License. You can download the application using the above link or at the Park Police station located in the Allegany State Park Administration Building in the Red House area.
The Allegany State Park (ASP) hunting permit outlines additional restrictions for hunting in the park: Hunting with centerfire rifles and handguns and Sunday hunting are prohibited in certain areas, and taking of bears is prohibited, etc. Crossbow hunting is allowed in ASP in accordance with the Department of Environmental Conservation's regulations. For more information on ASP Hunting Regulations, view the permit application.

Nonresident Hunters & Hunter Education Courses
New York State requires that all hunters take an IHEA approved course on hunting safety. If you are a nonresident and would like to buy a NYS hunting license, just show your course card to the License Issuing Agent. If you aren't sure if your card qualifies, contact the NYSDEC Region 9 Sportsman Education Office at (716) 372-0645.
Unlike many other states, NYS also requires bowhunters to take a bowhunting safety course. If you are a nonresident and want to bowhunt in New York, you must present a bowhunting safety course certificate when purchasing your bowhunting privilege. Register for currently scheduled NYSDEC Bowhunter Education Courses.
